Update on Avian Influenza - 2010

 

15 February 2010 – Bangladesh

Number of HPAI outbreaks per month from March 2007 up to 27 January 2010 

Bangladesh reported the latest outbreak of HPAI amongst poultry on 4th February 2010 from Bogra district.

In the year 2010, five outbreaks were reported amongst poultry from 4 districts (Sirajganj, Joypurhat, Dhaka and Bogra) of which two were reported from same district.

Human surveillance has been strengthened in the affected localities and prophylactic Oseltamivir was given to cullers and contacts. The Directorate General of Livestock has sent a proposal to the commerce ministry for canceling the standing order for eggs and one-day-old chicken from AI affected regions.

10th February 2010 - Nepal

Nepal

Fresh outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was confirmed in poultry in Pokhara district on February 4th 2010.

The RRTs culled 10447 chickens, 314 ducks and destroyed 112 carat eggs from the affected area. The surveillance team has done door to door surveillance in 232 households in Pokhara. Till date no suspected cases of Human Avian Influenza have been detected.

 

5th February 2010 – update of Avian Influenza situation, West Bengal India

The outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in poultry is continuing in Kharagram and Burwan block, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. Government of India notified this outbreak on 14th January 2010.

Containment measures have been carried out as per the contingency plan of DADF. Poultry in an area of 0-3km-radius of the outbreak is being culled, so far 150686 birds have been culled and 18190 eggs have been destroyed

Surveillance activities are going on in 0-3 Km and 3-10Km area. A total of 293640 population of are under surveillance.   Seven cases reported with fever and URI but none of them has history of contact with infected poultry.

A Central Rapid Response Team of MOHFW is stationed at Murshidabad to assist the state health authorities.

So far, no cases of Human Avian influenza have been reported from India.

27 January 2010 – India

The outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) due to influenza A H5N1 in poultry is continuing in Kharagram block, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The infection has spread to   Burwan Block in the same district. 

Poultry in an area of 0-3km-radius of the outbreak is being culled so far 116824 birds have been culled and 11409 eggs have been destroyed.

A total population of 446230 is under surveillance in an area of 10-km-radius.  Eighteen persons reported of fever with URI but none of them has history of contact with infected poultry.409 poultry workers/cullers / veterinary surgeons involved in culling operations have been put under chemoprophylaxis.

A three member Central Rapid Response Team of MOHFW is stationed at Murshidabad to assist the state health authorities.

So far, no case of human avian influenza has been reported from India.

21 January 2010 – India

Fresh outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) due to influenza A H5N1 has been reported in poultry from Kharagram block, Murshidabad district of West Bengal. It started on 14 January 2010.  A population of 119098 (spread over 52 villages) is under surveillance in an area of 10-km-radius.  Poultry in an area of 0-3km-radius of the outbreak is being culled.

So far, no case of human avian influenza has been reported from India.
