The participants unanimously agreed that there was an
urgent need to infuse quality in all aspects of BTS and the initiation of the
Quality Management project by WHO was an admirable
initiative and a step in the right direction.
Capacity building was vital for implementing quality management, and
the success of the regional QMT course, held at Bangkok,
had shown that considerable progress could be made if effective training was
imparted to the BTS professionals. The following recommendations emerged from
the discussions on various issues regarding facilitators’ tool kit for QMT
courses for blood transfusion services in the countries of the Region:
1. The
course curriculum, as modified at this review meeting, should be adopted for
its technical content and duration of the course.
2. The
changes suggested at this meeting should be carried out by the WHO
Secretariat and any assistance required from experts would be forthcoming for
finalizing the facilitators’ tool kit.
3. The
course curriculum and teaching material should be followed at the forthcoming
national QMT courses in the Region during the year 2001.
4. The
experts facilitating the forthcoming national courses should give their
critical comments to WHO on the efficacy of the
course curriculum and the utility of the teaching material immediately after
the conclusion of the course. This will help in further refin
ing the facilitators’ tool kit.
5. Other
advocacy and technical material that will be prepared by WHO under the
Quality Management Project should be reviewed, assessed and field -tested in
the Region before their use to achieve the intended objective.
