HIV/AIDS prevention and control services need to be
geared up for an effective response to the epidemic. For rapid scale-up
HIV/AIDS services would need to be integrated with the public health system
so that they are easily accessible to all those in need of it.
The WHO Regional Office for South-East
Asia is supporting these efforts by building capacity in the
Member countries of the Region by improving health system infrastructure and
management as well as providing training. The potential areas for focused
capacity building and training include rapid assessments and response,
advocacy, testing and counselling, monitoring and
evaluation and harm reduction.
The Regional Office is conducting training of trainers
as well as preparing generic training modules that can be adapted by the
countries. It is also developing tools for evaluating training programmes to
improve efforts in capacity building.
