WHO-SEARO/UNICEF EAPRO Intercountry Workshop on Training for Trainers on HIV/AIDS Voluntary Counselling and Testing: Part I, Yangon, 18–30 July 2005

WHO SEARO and UNICEF are conducting the third Training of Trainers in HIV Voluntary Counselling and Testing with the general objective of strengthening institutional capacity in providing HIV voluntary counselling and testing services and training.

Participation is by invitation only and WHO SEAR participants include those from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. In addition, there will be participants from UNICEF EAPR.

The participants will acquire basic counselling and management skills for implementing HIV counselling and testing services as well as learn facilitators’ training technology to be applied for HIV voluntary counselling and testing training activities.

The timing of the workshop is most appropriate since capacity of health care providers needs to be strengthened to increase access to knowledge of HIV status as an entry point to HIV/AIDS care and treatment. This will be an important step towards accelerating progress towards achieving the “3 by 5” targets.
