Epidemiological situation.
Malaria is not a public health problem in Maldives.
There is no indigenous transmission since 1984 and country is maintaining it’s malaria free status in the entire SEA Region. Only few imported cases (from 10 to 30) are being reported
every year.

The Dynamics of Malaria Burden in Maldives
As
conceptualized by WHO,
malaria eradication in Maldives
was achieved with elimination of Anopheles vectors, rather than elimination
of the parasites and country has remained free of malaria for the last 19
years (since 1984) with only some imported malaria cases each year.
Trends of malaria Cases in Maldives

Control strategy:
The
surveillance activities have been completely integrated with the PHC system
w9th the principles of early detection and prompt treatment
Residual
spraying with DDT is done when Anopheles vectors are found.
Use
of chemical such as abate is used to destroy the mosquito larvae and larvivorous fish is the main
means of controlling mosquitoes.
In
order to keep the country malaria free, malaria control activities like larviciding etc. kept on going
status.
Control problem and constraint
Lack
of health infrastructure and trained professional staff.

of accessibility due to widespread islands
