INTERNATIONAL HEALTH REGULATIONS – 1st
Anniversary
 June 15, 2008 marked the first year of IHR
implementation after entry into force. On its anniversary, the International
Health Regulations have seen progress towards it implementation.
By December 2007,
all 11 countries in SEARO have had IHR and NIPPP assessments (ahead of 2009
timeline) and 10 countries have conducted table top exercises to test their NIPPPs. Public Health Security Exercises (PHSX) have been
conducted twice in 2007 and 2008 with WHO HQ.
Recently, WHO
SEARO established a taskforce on IHR at the Regional office to assist in
formulating policies, strategies and activities essential for IHR
implementation and pandemic preparedness and to provide technical assistance
to Member States in developing core capacities.
