Reducing Global Warming – a way to preventing and
controlling diseases
A National Conference on the Prevention and
Control of diseases 2008 was organized by Department of Disease Control, Ministry
of Public Health in Bangkok
from 11-13 February. The theme of the
conference titled “Reduce Global Warming:
Stop Dangerous Diseases and Health Threats” main objectives were to
promote awareness and strengthen collaborative networks for appropriate
preparedness and response to disease threats.
The event brought together public health officers, epidemiologists
and academic experts from the country to share their views and experiences in
surveillance, prevention and control of communicable as well as non-communicable
diseases in an era being challenged by global climate changes and the impact
of this on human health. Other participants included partners from other
disciplines including the ministries of Livestock, Interior, the Health
section within the Defence Ministry, Bureau of
Police, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Universities.
The three day event drew over 2,500 participants who
exchanged ideas and engaged in discussed through various means including
lectures, plenary sessions, poster presentations.
CSR contributed a presentation in the first panel
discussion on “Reduce Global Warming
– Stop Dangerous Disease; View point in Epidemiology”
The acting WR for Thailand presented a lecture on
“IHR Global and Regional Implementation – Experience of the First Year”
