Public health surveillance is defined as the ongoing,
systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of health
data. Public health agencies use surveillance data to monitor health
events, set priorities, evaluate prevention and intervention programs, assist
in planning, and use data for evidenced-based decision-making.
IVD publishes two weekly reports each Monday evening (India
time). The weekly “Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) Surveillance
Bulletin” summarizes the latest polio, AFP, VPD, and laboratory data from the
11 Member Countries. The “Weekly AFP and VPD Update” (PowerPoint
slides) provides more in-depth analyses of the polio and AFP surveillance
situation in the Region. On the first Tuesday of each month, the
“Monthly VPD Update” (PowerPoint slides) is published which provides
additional regional epidemiological analyses of VPDs
and immunization coverage. The “Monthly VPD Update” also includes
updated maps of the status of the two key indicators for AFP surveillance
quality—the non-polio AFP rates and the adequate stool collection
rates.
Periodically, we include information on EPI programs and VPDs reported by Member Countries through the annual
WHO/UNICEF Joint Reporting Form (JRF) and the SEARO Annual EPI Report Form
(AERF). Data from these reports are also compiled and summarized in the
Regional and Member Country Fact Sheets and can be found through the links
provided on this page.
Data management tools are also available to assist EPI
programs, surveillance units, and VPD laboratories in data collection,
management, analysis, and routine reporting. These tools can also
assist EPI programmes to feed forward data to
central, national, regional and global programs.
