The priority areas of action in SDE are health in
poverty reduction, sustainable development and vulnerability reduction.
SDE is identifying options and developing methods for integrating health into
development and poverty reduction programs at global, regional, country,
local, and household levels. It will analyze and act upon the broad
determinants of health (security, governance, nutrition, environment,
population movements and patterns of settlements, income, transport,
education, information, etc.), and their different contexts (political,
socio-economic, development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and trade).
SDE
is assessing the health component of sustainable development, emphasizing the
dynamics and impact of globalization, trade and aid, and rapid socio-economic
transitions, and will develop policies for ensuring sound nutrition, healthy
environments and the right to health, in the all-encompassing and holistic
sense.
SDE
is promoting vulnerability reduction, particularly in relation to the
exposure of vulnerable groups or areas to environmental health and nutritional
hazards, and in the preparation, response and follow-up of emergencies and
crises, ensuring the protection and support of health development capacities
and capabilities.
