Jaipur Declaration by Health Ministers to
combat antimicrobial resistance
Acknowledging the growing global importance of
antimicrobial resistance, the Health Ministers of all Member States of WHO
South-East Asia Region adopted the “Jaipur
Declaration on Antimicrobial Resistance”. The Declaration recognizes that
it is imperative that the national governments accord utmost priority to
this problem to preserve efficacy of antibiotics in fight against microbial
diseases.
On World Health Day 2011, WHO is urging intensified
global commitment to safeguard antibiotics for preventing and controlling
infectious diseases as well as for future generations. Growing resistance in microbes to
antibiotics threatens the continued effectiveness of many medicines. WHO
has therefore made antimicrobial resistance the theme of this year’s World
Health Day.
