I.   WHO TRAVEL ENTITLEMENTS

(1) General:

Staff members can avail themselves of the following two options:

Organization-assisted travel arrangements:

Lump Sum for Statutory Travel (LSST)

The Organization takes care of all travel arrangements (purchase of tickets, payment for accompanied baggage, of per diem and insurance arrangements)

 

The staff member makes his/her own travel arrangements with no involvement from the Organization.

(2) WHO Travel Entitlements

Notes:

1. The duration of a particular journey will be determined on the basis of combined flying time of all legs of the journey to a given destination by the most direct and economical route available, provided the journey is not interrupted for official stops of more than one day.

2. The flying time shall include scheduled stops for change of planes or other purposes, but shall exclude travel time to and from airports.

3. Up to four hours for connections between flights may be included in the flying time for the particular journey.

II.        LUMP SUM OPTIONS FOR STATUTORY TRAVEL (LSST)

 

(1)       Eligibility:

 

The LSST is open to all internationally-recruited staff that are eligible for the statutory travel entitlements being exercised under the provisions set forth in the applicable WHO Staff Rules and policies and procedures.

 

(2)       Amounts Payable:

An amount equivalent to 75 per cent of the IATA full fare economy one-way ticket by the most direct route.

*      Home Leave,

*      Change of duty station in conjunction with home leave,

*      Return home leave under education grant or special education grant,

*      Family Visit (spouse travel), or

*      Family visit (staff member travel)

An amount equivalent to 75 per cent of the IATA full fare economy return ticket by the most direct route.

*      Education grant,

*      Special education grant, or

*      Exchange education grant or special education grant

An amount equivalent to 75 per cent of carrier least expensive full fare economy one-way or round trip ticket, as applicable, by the most direct route.

Rest and Recuperation

An amount equivalent to 75 per cent of the IATA full fare economy return ticket by the most direct route, and an additional amount of $ 700 in lieu of the applicable per diem.

Notes:

In all cases, the lump sum will be calculated at the following rates:

1.      Staff member and his/her eligible spouse:  100 percent;

2.      Eligible dependent children 12 years of age and over :  100 percent; and

3.      Eligible dependent children under 12 years of age : 50 percent

 

 

III.         DEFINITIONS OF FARES:

Definitions of Fares Applicable in SEARO

 

Business Class

Business
Class

Cheapest available Business class airfare available for dates
of travel. This could be cheapest of the Business class available market fare or WHO special negotiated fare or special seasonal offers from airlines.

 

W.H.O. Business Class Negotiated
Fare

These are fares lower than full fare and could even be lower than market fares available but on specific airlines.  These fares normally permit date change without penalty charge on the same carrier and may not carry the minimum stay clause.  These fares could also be routing specific fares.

 

Economy Class

Full Economy Class

Most expensive type of economy class without restrictions. Total flexibility at a price may combine airlines enroute, change date, routing etc., can be more expensive than cheaper business class.

 

Cheapest Economy Class

Cheapest available economy class airfare available for  dates of travel. May have restrictions as to airline, length of stay, ticketing deadline, changes, non-refundable or Excursion fares, fares promoted by the DGCA having restrictions, airline restrictions, seat availability restrictions, refundability.
