Training workshop on advanced course in Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) causality assessment
19 March 2017 - World Health Organization (WHO) with technical support from the WHO headquarter and South-East Asia Regional Office (SEARO), facilitated a three day training workshop on advanced course in Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) causality assessment from 24-26 February 2017 in Habiganj, Sylhet division.
The main purpose of this workshop was to train the AEFI Expert Review Committee (ERC) members on AEFI causality assessment and to provide knowledge about new developments in AEFI monitoring including the assessment software. The training was based on the standard WHO advanced course on AEFI causality assessment. Participants were also introduced to the innovative web based vaccine adverse event information management system that is currently being developed by WHO that will assist national AEFI committee members to conduct causality assessment for individual AEFI cases.
Twelve members of AEFI ERC including the academic professors, representatives of national EPI, DGDA and WHO NPO Divisional Coordinators, NPO-Vaccine Safety & Quality and Team Leader IVD attended the workshop. Resource persons were from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, WHO and from the Lady Hardinge Medical College New Delhi, India. The training workshop successfully concluded with great interest shown by committee members and high level officers from the Ministry.
