Stay healthy during Ramadan
Ramadan has started and it is important to maintain your health during the whole period of it. You must remember that you should never miss Seheri meal. That is the meal that gives you the energy for the whole day until Iftar. Here are some other important tips, especially during Seheri and Iftar:
- Reduce the intake of fatty, deep-fried, processed, spicy or salty food as these will increase thirst during the fasting period.
- Drink plenty of water and eat hydrating foods. Eat fruits instead of fruit juices.
- Break your fast at Iftar with dates to prevent headaches and to get the energy your body needs.
- Divide meals in three parts- Iftar, light evening meal and Seheri.
Remember that a healthy nutrition is important for your entire life-course, as this prevents many diseases. An unhealthy diet is one of the major risk factors for a range of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and other conditions linked to obesity. Specific recommendations for a healthy diet include: eating more fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts and grains; cutting down on salt, sugar and fats. It is also advisable to choose unsaturated fats, instead of saturated fats and towards the elimination of trans-fatty acids.
