WHO Representative to Bangladesh


Dr Paranietharan (“Paranie”) arrived in Bangladesh on July 18, 2014. He is a results oriented leader and is known for thinking outside the box to arrive at innovative solutions for complex problems. He has notable achievements in health systems strengthening, health sector coordination, and technical assistance to governments and development partners throughout his career.

Before joining the WHO in Bangladesh, he worked as the Senior Health Systems Strengthening Advisor with USAID in Uganda from 2010 to June 2014. Dr Paranie started his career in the private sector and NGOs in Asia and joined WHO in the South Sudan and Somalia offices from 2005 to 2009.

Dr Paranie is a Medical doctor from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has Master of Public Health degree, specializing in Health Policy and Financing, and post graduate studies in Healthcare Leadership and Management from the Johns Hopkins University – Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA.
