Brief report on observation International Day against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking and World No Tobacco Day

On 26 June 2017, International Day against Drug Abuse, Illicit Trafficking and World No Tobacco Day was observed at the clock Tower Square, Thimphu. The World No tobacco day was also observed together. It was organized by Bhutan Narcotics Agency Control (BNCA) in collaboration with Ministry of Health, WHO, and United Nation Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) with the main objective of raising awareness among public on drug abuse, Illicit trafficking and harmful effects of Tobacco use.The chief guest was Mr. Tandin Wangchuk, Minster for Health.

The theme of theme of the day was: “Listening to children and youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe” and “Tobacco a threat to Development” for World no Tobacco Day.

WHO Representative, Dr Rui Paulo de Jesus attended the day as a guest. He said “one important thing that he noted on the day was multisectoral collaboration where stakeholders from Ministry of Education, Health, Police, and Armed forces were present. This is central to achieving the results of fight against drug”. Then he read out the RD’s message of the day to the audience which was centred on the harmful health impacts of Tobacco use and its effect on development and environment.
