Situation in Bangladesh

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Government of Bangladesh has reported two fresh outbreaks of H5 poultry AI outbreaks in two districts on 29 August 2009, i. e. Chittagong and Rajshahi. As of 01 September 2009, a total of 326 outbreaks had been recorded in 48 districts out of 64 districts of Bangladesh. A total of 1,690,662 chickens have been culled.

Previous outbreaks have been reported in the districts of Chittagong, Dhaka, Dinajpur, Gaibandha, Gazipur, Kurigram, Manikgonj, Mirpur, Naranyanganj, Natore, Patuakhali, Rangapur, and Thakurgaon during January-June 2009.

So far, the first and only human case of H5N1 infection occurred in January 2008.
