On April 4, 2007, OIE reported an outbreak of highly
pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in backyard poultry in the district of Muang, Mukdahan province. For

There have been 25 WHO laboratory confirmed human cases
of avian influenza since December 2003; of which 17 deaths were reported. The
last human case was reported on 27 September 2006.
