*      Private labs to send malaria, dengue data to civic body
In its battle against malaria, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has for the first time roped in private laboratories to give data on malaria and dengue cases across the city. Apart from the laboratory at the Kasturba Hospital and Haffkine Institute — which give reports on malaria and tests conducted at civic hospitals — private labs will send reports on malaria and dengue positive cases to the BMC.

*     9th Malaria training Course on clinical management of malaria, Faculty of TropMed, Mahidol University, 29 Aug-2 Sep 2011

The Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University (A WHO collaborating centre on clinical management of malaria) and WHO are jointly organizing the 9th annual course on clinical management of malaria in Bangkok, Thailand during 29 Aug -2 Sep 2011. The course fee is 900 USD.

*     Informal Consultative Meeting on Standard Protocol Development for Estimating Malaria Disease Burden in SEA Region, New Delhi, 11-13 August, 2010

An Informal Consultative Meeting on Standard Protocol Development for Estimating Malaria Disease Burden in SEA Region in collaboration with NIMR has been planed to organize in WHO SEARO, New Delhi from 11-13 August, 2010. Apart  from Office- in –Charge of field offices of NIMR,  various other  eminent epidemiologists and Bio-Statisticians has consented to attend this meeting.

In the proposed consultative meeting, after a discussion with the participants a common methodology will be finalized and a generic protocol will be developed with mutual consensus which can be employed in all the member countries and will get a comparable estimate upon malaria disease burden.  Finally, estimate for malaria morbidity and mortality for India by state will be finalized.

The meeting was organized to review achievements of malaria control programmes and to identify specific interventions using integrated approach, partnership and networking to strengthen malaria control in SEA Region.

*      UN General Assembly Adopts New Resolution on the Decade to Roll Back Malaria

New York, USA, 22 December 2008: The United Nations General Assembly met on Dec 22, 2008, to address the Decade to Roll Back Malaria for which it considered draft resolution number A/63/L.62. The text welcomes the Global Malaria Action Plan that, for the first time, provided a comprehensive strategy for combating the disease in the short, medium and long term. The plan also gives further impetus to internationally agreed targets of universal coverage of malaria interventions for all at-risk populations by 2010, with the ultimate goal of eradicating the disease.

*      Meeting of the Ad hoc Strategic Advisory Group to the Director General on Global Malaria Programme, Geneva, 19-20 May 2006

In order to strengthen WHO’s effectiveness in tackling malaria, the WHO Director General has decided to establish a Ad hoc Strategic Technical Advisory Group whose mandate will be to advise the Director General on Global Malaria Programme’s new direction.  The first meeting of the above mentioned distinguished group was held on 19-20 May, 2006, Geneva.  Many Health Ministers of the Member Countries as well as senior signatories had graced to the occasion.  Dr Jai P. Narain, Director, Communicable Diseases from WHO / SEARO had also attended that said meeting and put forward the following presentation to the august audience.
