Countries,
such as, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Thailand and Sri Lanka show improved
reduction of infection rates as an impact of mass deworming.
Bhutan, Maldives,
Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand are already targeting
the entire school-aged children, living in high-risk areas, for regular
school based deworming. Bangladesh,
Myanmar, Nepal and Timor-Leste are expected to target
the entire school-age high-risk population by 2006 and the remaining three
countries, DPR Korea, India
and Indonesia
are under the planning and preparatory stage.
Partnerships with
organizations, such as, World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF, CARE, World Bank,
Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation, German Pharma Health Fund (GPHF) and Japan International
Cooperation Agency (JICA) have been established in the Region.
National
focal point to coordinate these activities has been identified in each
country, but there is need for greater political commitment.
Collaboration
with Asian Centre for International Parasite Control (ACIPAC) for training
personnel for capacity building in the countries.
Availability
of health education materials to inculcate preventive habits and personal
hygiene of school children.
