Goal
To reduce morbidity and mortality caused by
soil-transmitted helminthiasis by 50% and to achieve a target of regular
treatment (deworming) to at least 75% of all school-age children at risk, by
2010
Objectives
 To reduce the prevalence and the intensity of
the STH infections among the high risk groups in the population
To reduce anaemia and other clinical
complications caused by STH
Strategy to achieve
the goal and objectives
Regular deworming of the school children aged
5 – 15 years in the high endemic areas using the school infrastructure and
school teachers. These drugs are very safe, effective, given as a single dose
and can be administered by non-medical personnel such as school teachers.
Advocacy and IEC to promote political
commitment and community awareness.
