| World No Tobacco Day 2007

This year’s World No-Tobacco Day theme
focuses on creation of smoke-free environments. Over the years, Member
States in the Region have moved forward and initiated necessary measures
for creating and expanding smoke-free places. In recognition of these
efforts, two Honourable Ministers of Health from
the Region along with three other tobacco control advocates have been honoured by the WHO Director-General on the occasion of
World No-Tobacco Day this year. The WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia is working closely with the Member
States in their efforts to create and expand smoke-free places. Protecting
people from the hazards of second-hand smoke is also an important element
of WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control.
Parties to the Convention are treaty-bound to implement the relevant
provisions of the Convention.
