Incidents due to
Heavy Rains, Floods and Landslides - Sri Lanka
Due to continuous heavy rains, 13
districts are affected by the flash floods in Sri
Lanka (mainly the eastern part)- these districts include
Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Monaragala, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Kegalle, Kandy,
Ampara, Trincomalee, Matale, Ratnapura and Kurunegala. As of 11 January, 863,773 people consisting
of 228,078 families have been affected. 482,323 people were from Batticaloa district. 13 deaths have been reported with 44
injuries as well. A total of 324 temporary shelters have been established in
the affected districts so far.
