Monson Floods 2007

INDIAFresh monsoon rains in the second week of September has led to renewed flooding in the states of Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal. In Assam, 35 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, and officials report that 26 districts are affected, and 710 relief camps and centres have been opened to accommodate approximately 300 000 displaced people. Since the beginning of the floods, 2577 deaths have been reported across the country. More flooding may occur as moderate to heavy rain is forecasted over the North-western states in the coming days.
