Timor Leste World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017 activities
In 2017, WHO, FAO and OIE launched the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) 13-19 November, calling for responsible use of antibiotics in humans and animals to reduce the emergence of antibiotic resistance. To respond to this call, the Ministry of Health (MOH) Timor-Leste, supported by the WHO Country Office for Timor-Leste organized series of activities to raise the awareness on rational prescribing and use of antibiotics to the public and the health care professionals across the country during the month November 2017.
Thailand World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017 activities
WHO, FAO and OIE in Thailand all supported the opening of the Antibiotic Awareness Week Celebrations at FAO Regional Office for Asia and Pacific on Monday on 13 November 2017.
There was also a National conference on AMR on 23 November which was chaired by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister. During the conference, a Call-to-Action Declaration on AMR was signed and launched by 25 key organizations and agencies, including by WR Thailand.
Nepal World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017 activities
WHO, GARP-Nepal/NPHF , FAO,OIE, Government of Nepal (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture Development, Ministry of Population and Environment and Ministry of Forest) and Fleming Fund jointly conducted series of activities to mark World Antibiotic Awareness Week, 2017 (November 13-19).
Myanmar World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017 activities
WAAW ceremony was held at Naypyidaw in collaboration with MoHS, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MoALI), development partners, concerned professional associations and concerned stakeholders.
Technical seminars were organized which was attended by the officials from National Health Laboratory, Clinician, Myanmar Academy Medical Society, Livestock Breeding, Veterinary Department, FAO and WHO.
There were displays on AMR activities and dissemination of IECs ( bags, umbrella and AMR booklets) to all participants
‘Think Twice, Seek Advice’! – Celebrating Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017
13th-19th November marked the World Antibiotic Awareness Week. The Maldives Food and Drug Authority with support from and in partnership with WHO observed wide range of activities across the country focusing on the theme of ‘Seek advice’ from a qualified healthcare professional before taking antibiotics.
Minister of Health HE Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and WHO Representative Dr Arvind Mathur jointly launched the National Action Plan for Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) 2017-2022 in Male at an official multi-stakeholder event which is the hallmark of the plan as it includes and focuses on coordination between the different sectors to strengthen the battle against antimicrobial resistance
World Antibiotic Awareness Week activities in India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka
During the World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017, India produced two posters and an AMR plaque.
Indonesia held a series of events in Bekasi led by Indonesia Pharmacist Association and includes signing declaration by Pharmacists. There was also an AMR event by MOH /WHO during Car Free Day event in Jakarta . The AMR seminar was also held in Surabaya East Java, including an AMR lecture to medical student of Airlangga University. Indonesia WCO were uploading all the information into the global interactive site.
In Sri Lanka, the main activity conducted for the AMR week was public awareness campaign conducted at hospital level by the Microbiologists and the hospital staff using the material developed in SRL and also ones shared by SEARO.
