Nepal World Antibiotic Awareness Week 2017 activities

World Antibiotic Awareness Week - Nepal

WHO, GARP-Nepal/NPHF , FAO,OIE, Government of Nepal (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Livestock Development, Ministry of Agriculture Development, Ministry of Population and Environment and Ministry of Forest) and Fleming Fund jointly conducted series of activities to mark World Antibiotic Awareness Week, 2017 (November 13-19).

Press Conference: Press conference was organized on 13 November 2017 in Reporters Club, Bhrikuti Mandap. The conference was attended by the representatives of all collaborating partners and media persons. Reporters club shared about the conference in their Facebook page. (

Standees in 5 regional laboratories: Standees were placed in 5 regional laboratories for the entire week. Standees were also displayed on 37th World Food Day on 6 November, 2017 at City hall, Pradarshani Marga. FAO organized a prize distribution ceremony on the occasion with the theme "Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development". The program felicitated several farmers for their outstanding work.

Walkathon: Rally started from Civil hospital (Baneswor) and ended at Directorate of Animal Health, Tripureswor. The news about the walkathon was covered in swasthakhabar. (

AMR stakeholders meeting and workshop: Workshop on “One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance: Challenges and Way Forward” was organized on 19 November 201 at Hotel Himalaya, Kupandol, Lalitpur. . The workshop was well attended by 102 assembled dignitaries including Dr. Keshav Prasad Premy, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Livestock Development , Dr. Bimal Kumar Nirmal, Director General, Department of Livestock Services , Mr. Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director General, Department of Drug Administration , Mr. Man Bahadur Khadka, Director General, Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation and representatives from Ministry of Health, Consumer Forum, WHO, FAO, Nepal Poultry Federation, Fleming Fund , and media.

Talk Program on AMR: First episode (AMR from one health perspective) of the talk program “Bahas maa Antibiotics” was aired on 17 November 2017 from Nepal Television. Dr. Sameer Mani Dixit , Program Director, GARP-Nepal and Dr. Barun Sharma, Senior Veterinary Officer, Ministry of Livestock Development were the experts. (
