Panel discussion on future challenges of the health system in Bhutan
On June 26, 2017, APO in collaboration with Royal Government of Bhutan organized a panel discussion on future Bhutan Health System. This was followed by the Launch of Bhutan Health System Review.
It was moderated by APO Director, Dr Nima Asgari. Three authors described the current situation and future challenges of three issues identified during development of Bhutan HiT.
1. Referral system including treatment abroad by Dr Pandup Tshering
2. Service Gaps by Mr Tandin Dorji
3. Human Resources for Health by Dr Tashi Tobgay
Comments by editors of the Bhutan HiT, Dr Walaiporn Patcharanarumol and Dr Viroj Tangcharoensathien, and Bhutan HiT reviewer, Dr Piya Hanvoravongchai highlighted the importance of preparing for the expected NCD tsunami by focusing on health workforce preparedness as well as changing service delivery models and increasing the capacity for performing Health Technology Assessment to ensure value for money especially for the introduction of new technology and medicines.
