The Independent State of Papua New Guinea Health Systems in Transition (HiT) review launched

APO launched the first ever health system review of the Independent State of Papua new Guinea on 28 Feb 2019, during the visit of Dr Takeshi Kasai, the newly appointed Regional Director for the Western Pacific Region of WHO.

The HiT was partially funded by a grant from Word bank, an APO partner organization and was co-edited by Professor Maxine Whittaker of James Cook University. Professor Whittaker summarized the main findings of the HiT to the 70 participants from the government, academic and development sector.

His Excellency Dr Sir Puka Temu Minister of Health for PNG received a copy of the HiT and even quoted from the book during his speech.

The launch concluded with a panel discussion involving authors, editors and representatives of ADB and WHO ono the challenges of reinvigorating Primary Health Care in PNG and the role of Provincial Health Authorities integrating services between primary and hospital care.
