Mission

To prevent injuries, violence and disabilities and reduce their consequences by:
Providing scientific and evidence-based information and technologies to governments of the Member States; and
Promoting prevention and rehabilitation measures in all Member States to ensure that every person in the SEA Region lives his or her life to its fullest potential

Strategies

Increasing political, financial and technical commitment in Member States to prevent injury, violence and disabilities and to promote rehabilitation especially through community-based programmes.
Supporting Member States to develop and implement national policies and plans to prevent and manage road traffic injuries, and other major injuries, violence and disabilities.
Supporting Member States in improving surveillance and related information systems including population-based surveys for planning, monitoring and assessing the impact of national programmes for prevention of injuries, violence and disabilities.
Capacity strengthening for injuries, violence and disabilities prevention and promoting rehabilitation especially through community-based programmes.
Supporting Member States in implementing and evaluating interventions.
Assisting Member States in implementing, documenting and disseminating multisectoral, population-wide programmes to prevent and alleviate the consequences of injuries, violence and disabilities. Supporting Member States in strengthening national health and social systems, and research to prevent and manage injuries, violence and disabilities.

Monitoring and evaluation framework

The Regional Committee resolution on “Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion” adopted in 2010 and the progress report on it to be submitted to the Regional Committee in 2014.
