Regional Director embarks on country visits to discuss priority health issues, begins with Bangladesh


The Regional Director met Her Excellency Bangladesh Prime Minister Ms Sheikh Hasina on 26 March and discussed strengthening health workforce, particularly to address the impact of climate change, and achieve universal health coverage.

Along with His Excellency the King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, the Regional Director visited Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery where Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen briefed them about the institute.

Global Leprosy Programme

The Global Leprosy Programme (GLP) of the World Health Organization is housed in the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia (and not in the Organization’s headquarters in Geneva). It is the Organization’s designated programme for addressing leprosy worldwide. Being classified as one of the 20 neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), the unit works in close collaboration with the Department of Control of NTDs in HQ, designated focal points in all regions, national leprosy programmes and partners.
