Noncommunicable diseases

First Regional Workshop for Noncommunicable Disease Programme Managers, Kalutara, Sri Lanka, 18-22 March 2014

To strengthen the national capacity and accelerate national efforts for prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases, WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia organized the first Regional Workshop for Noncommunicable Disease Programme Managers in Kalutara, Sri Lanka from 18 to 22 March 2014. .

Specific objectives of the workshop are:

1. To provide information about the burden of NCDs and strategies for their prevention and control including surveillance, prevention and management;
2. To discuss cost effective interventions to achieve global and regional targets for reducing tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, physical inactivity, population salt consumption, hypertension, diabetes and obesity, household air pollution, and increasing access to treatment and availability of essential NCD drugs;
3. To impart skills in advocacy, partnership and leadership; and
4. To develop a draft national action plan for prevention and control of NCDs and identify next steps for taking it forward at the country level.
