About Research Policy and Cooperation Unit

The Research Policy and Cooperation (RPC) unit in WHO SEARO is designed to advocate regional health research priorities, promote ethical and evidence informed health policy and practice, and strengthen research capability. The Unit advocate and promote research carried out by non-health sectors that have bearing on health to support Health in All Policies. The Unit is also be responsible for maintaining a regional information database on WHO Collaborating Centres, Expert Advisory Panels and Committees. The RPC Unit liaise with UN agencies, research councils and analogous bodies, scientific unions and NGOs working in the areas of health research systems development. Objectives of the RPC unit are:

  • to strengthen capabilities of health research, particularly in small countries, namely: Bhutan, Maldives and Timor Leste
  • to promote research for health carried out by non-health sectors to support Health in All Policies (HiAP)
  • to advocate and enhance capacity of Member States in developing ethical and evidence informed policy options in priority public health
  • to maintain a regional information database on WHO Collaborating Centre, Expert Advisory Panels and Committee
