Dr N. Paranietharan – WHO Representative to Indonesia

Dr Paranietharan (“Paranie”) arrived in Indonesia on 01 January 2018. Dr Paranie is a results oriented leader with progressive responsibility in leading and advising multi-million dollar programs. He has notable achievements in health systems strengthening, health sector coordination, and technical assistance to governments and development partners throughout his career.

Before joining the WHO country office for Indonesia, Dr Paranie led the WHO country office for Bangladesh, since July 2014, a team of more than 200 staff and consultants working on various technical areas of health sector, including universal health coverage (UHC) and health related sustainable development goals (SDGs). He played a vital role in scaling up health sector response to the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh.

Prior to Bangladesh, he worked as the Senior Health Systems Strengthening Advisor with USAID in Uganda from 2010 to June 2014. Dr Paranie started his career in the private sector and NGOs in Asia and joined WHO in the South Sudan and Somalia offices from 2005 to 2009.

Dr Paranie is a Medical Doctor from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has Master of Public Health degree, specializing in Health Policy and Financing, and post graduate studies in Healthcare Leadership and Management from the Johns Hopkins University, USA. Dr Paranie is a Sri Lankan national. He is married with two children.
