Maldives National Dengue Prevention Launched for 2018
Saturday, 6th January 2018- With support and partnership from WHO and the Housing Development Corporation, Health Protection Agency rang in the new year with a National Dengue Awareness Campaign. Government, WHO and private institutions in the country participated in the campaign held in Hulhumale’ and contributed their full efforts to reduce mosquito breeding sites. The campaign is being led by Honorable Minister of Health Mr Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, whom also participated in the activities.
Health Protection Agency rang in the new year with a National Dengue Awareness Campaign in Hulhumale. This campaign is occasioned with the partnership and support from WHO as well as Housing Development Corporation. Government, WHO and private institutions in the country participated in the campaign in the efforts to reduce Dengue cases, by eliminating breeding sites. The campaign is being led by Honorable Minister of Health Mr Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, whom joined the activities held at Hulhumale.
The campaign was initiated as January is recorded as a month which sees an increase in Dengue-related cases. Dengue is an endemic in the Maldives, with prevention and control of the illness solely dependent on effective mosquito control measures.
Authorities at the campaign delivered information to the participants on individual responsibilities to control dengue outbreak and on preventive measures.
The Minister called for different sectors to work together towards eliminating mosquito breeding. “Responsibility and involvement from all levels are required to work together to create a supportive sustainable and healthy environment.” The Minister reiterated during his remarks.
With WHO’s support, The Health Protection Agency also aims to conduct similar campaigns in Male' city and Villingili.
