“Maldives experienced torrential rain and thunderstorm on 30 November and 1st December 2017 in addition to the inter-monsoonal rains that the country was already receiving. Strong winds of around 30-40 miles per hour and gust winds up to 60 miles per hour were observed throughout the country. Most islands were affected by sea swells and rough seas. 57 islands, mostly in the north Atolls of the country were affected according to the National Disaster Management Center. 36 islands had instances of flooding. Some islands have experienced leakages in their sewerage systems. The depression moved away from the country on 1st of December. Thus further flooding and damage is not expected despite continuing mild rainfall.”
