Workshops held for effectively communicating during Health Emergencies and Partnering with Media
In the efforts to further reinforce the communication Strategy of the Ministry of Health, a half day workshop was organized by WHO Maldives together with Ministry of Health on Communicating Effectively during Health Emergencies. Communication and information focal points from all sections from the Ministry of Health joined the session where SEAR Communications Officer Ms Shamila Sharma discussed engagement with media, communicating with public, health messaging and furthermore, assessed areas of improvement in light of the recent health emergencies faced by the country.
The workshop was inaugurated by WHO Representative to Maldives Dr Arvind Mathur and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health Ms Khadheeja Samad, whom both identified the session as a key and crucial part of crisis and emergency management.
Furthermore, a short and interpersonal session was held for local journalists in the WHO Country Office for Maldives to discuss collaboration and areas of improvement in health reporting and information dissemination during emergencies. The media session was attended by some of the major news sources in the country such as Raajje TV, Channel 13, PSM and Miadhu News etc.
The occasion provided a valuable opportunity for both Ministry of Health, WHO and the media to interact with each other and understand one another’s strengths and weaknesses, and capacity for advancement and collaboration in the coming years.
