Collaborative Arrangement in support of Midwifery Education and Cadre in Nepal
On 22 November 2017, a Collaborative Arrangement in support of Midwifery Education and Cadre in Nepal was signed by the Ministry of Health (MoH), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Real Medicine Foundation (RMF) in presence of Health Secretary, Dr Kiran Regmi.
The Establishment of Midwifery Education and Cadre in Nepal will assist MoH to mitigate the shortage of skilled human resources for maternity and new born care. MoH is committed to provide Basic Health Care services to the people of Nepal and quality of care is among the major agenda. Having skilled midwives and well trained Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM) for maternity services at all levels of the health system is important to save lives of mothers and newborns, and to reach the national and global targets of maternal and neonatal health.
The Collaborative Arrangement will facilitate a more coherent and coordinated approach towards midwifery education and services in Nepal.
