WHO Conference for Public Health Informatics in Asia-Pacific

This conference is organized by WHO ( HQ, SEARO, WR India)  in collaboration with the following institutions:

  • Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
  • Public Health Foundation of India
  • Indian Council of Medical Research
  • International Clinical Epidemiology Network
  • University of Washington, Seattle, Washington
  • University of Manchester

It is a satellite conference to the Global Public Health Initiative Conference in Seattle 2008.  The focus of the conference is mainly on Asia-Pacific Countries.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness on Public Health Informatics (PHI)  for planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of services at population level and in policy making.
  • Identify and discuss, mainly from regional country perspectives:
    • needs and use cases for PHI
    • health information standards
    • appropriate and affordable tools and technologies
  • Evaluate national and international developments in Public Health Informatics
  • Identify priorities towards a public health informatics roadmap in short, medium and long term

Expected outcomes

  • Better understanding of challenges and opportunities and creation of a mechanism for ongoing mutual exchange/support in particular in Asia Pacific Network
  • Identification of areas for joint work:   Country based situation analysis will be done using the WHO PHI Survey. The conference will review the analysis of proposed use cases and make recommendations.

To provide participants with internet connectivity the hotel has made arrangements with India’s leading service provider AIRTEL. The cost of the Data Card is INR 2999/- nett (64.- USD) + Rental for One month- Limited usage (1GB) INR 599/- (13.- USD) and Unlimited Usage Rs. 999/- (21.- USD). The card will allow to access the internet within and outside of the hotel perimeter through the AIRTEL Mobile network. After completion of the meetings and before departure all card user will need to handover the data cards to the hotel so that the respective internet account can be cancelled/deactivated with AIRTEL.

The hotel will need to pre-purchase the cards from AIRTEL on behalf of the international guests. Therefore, please REQUEST the purchase of the data card in ADVANCE by contacting Ms Monica Sharma (e-mail: monica@selecthotels.in ). A small number of balance emergency cards can be purchased by guests onsite as well. All payments (by cash or credit card) will have to be made at the time of purchase of the data card onsite.
