Sri Lankan Dr Mahendra Wijesuriya appointed to Global NCD Alliance board
Sri Lankan Dr Mahendra Arunashanthi Wijesuriya, Executive Director, NCD Alliance Lanka, was appointed to the first ever Global NCD Alliance board. He is one of the 13 board members recognized as global leaders in the field of NCD prevention and control.
The NCD Alliance (NCDA) aims to make NCD prevention and control a key government priority through targeted advocacy and outreach initiatives. The Alliance works with a wide range of partners to stimulate government action on NCDs and to drive the NCD agenda forward. It was founded in 2009, and this year marked an important step forward for the organization as it evolved from an informal alliance to a registered NGO. This transition is instrumental in making the NCDA more inclusive and sustainable and will open up new opportunities for Board Members to be more formally engaged in the work of NCD advocacy.
Dr Mahendra Arunashanthi Wijesuriya is the Executive Director, NCD Alliance Lanka as well as the Honorary Director of Diabetes Association Sri Lanka. Dr Mahendra’s specialized expertise and leadership will be valuable to the NCDA as the organization establishes itself as a respected and active player on the global health stage.
