Remove and REPLACE: Eliminate trans fats, advance health and wellbeing
Thailand is one of the world’s leading food producers. We followed Denmark and also Argentina and, in the year 2015, Thailand Food and Drug Administration and the Ministry of Public Health worked closely with the Institute of Nutrition, to launch a program that would call Thailand a trans fat free country. We have conducted certain meetings with our stakeholders in our country and, on the 8th of May, just a few weeks ago, the Food Committee of Thailand has approved to enact a draft, of the Ministry of Public Health, a notification banning the use of partially hydrogenated oils in food products in Thailand. This notification will allow industry in Thailand 6 months, or 108 days, to comply with our new regulation. Therefore, trans fat will be totally eliminated from Thailand by early next year. So, we are here, on behalf of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, to strongly support WHO and the new initiative program: the WHO REPLACE action package.
